Nestled in Concourse D of the Portland International Airport, Portaurora is a serene interactive installation that embodies Sticky Culture's vision of art and technology in harmony. Reminiscent of the northern lights, it offers travelers a moment of tranquility amidst the typical airport hustle.

Our Approach

In creating Portaurora, our aim was to establish a serene oasis in an unexpected setting. Collaborating with AikaMusic for ethereal soundscapes and incorporating low-tech glitter for a celestial feel, we crafted a space where travelers, like magnetic fields, influence the quiet beauty of the northern lights overhead.

Features

Responsive Experience: Spanning three large ceiling alcoves, the lighting shifts with traveler movements, echoing the ebb and flow of auroras.

Celestial Ambience: Low-tech glitter enhances the auroral illusion, adding a touch of star-like wonder.

Soothing Soundscape: AikaMusic's ambient sound design complements the visuals, creating a cocoon of calm.

Impact

Portaurora has become a beloved feature of Portland International Airport, offering moments of calm and wonder. Its understated yet captivating presence has been well-received. Its emotional resonance was highlighted when a traveler, deeply moved by the installation, reached out to Sticky Co. to commission a personal version, Lil’Aurora, for his home in Europe.
